About

Born in Sydney, NSW, Katrina Benson grew up in Fremantle, Western Australia.

She studied Human Interactive Design and Photography at Curtin University and later completed Education at Edith Cowan University.

After graduating, she established her studio practice in Fremantle within an artist collective.

Following travel through Thailand and India, she held her first exhibition at Moores Building Art Space in Fremantle before moving to Sydney, where her work explored figurative motifs within surreal landscapes.

In 2000, Benson returned to Perth to study art education and continued a 25-year teaching career across painting, ceramics, design and photography. During this time, she developed her practice, and after the Melbourne lockdowns, shifted from figuration to pure abstraction.

Her work now focuses on abstract painting, with subtle references to urban form and figuration.

Her work is held in numerous private collections. She is currently based in Richmond, Melbourne, where she maintains a studio within an active artist collective and continues to explore large-scale abstraction.
